WINE GLASSES
Wine glasses come first to mind
when one thinks of fine crystal and the Czech crystal workers
art is perhaps best displayed in this stunning work.
Wine, white or red, can hardly
be more elegantly served. Perfect for wedding gifts, a housewarming
or just to have in your own home when a bottle of your favorite
wine is appropriate.
We are proud to bring to the world these wonderful
examples of what can be done with molten glass, worked, stretched,
turned and drawn into stunning gift glass---whether the gift
is for a lover, dear friend or merely yourself. Gaze through
it and wonder how it's done.
Every piece in our collection is made entirely
by hand, by craftsmen who trace their crystal working ancestry
back for centuries, often in the same villages where they
now live and work. We see them working the glass, young and
old in leather aprons or shorts and running shoes, several
generations side by side are reflected in the glare of the
kiln.
Czech crystal, the presentation gift of kings
for more than six centuries will remain in your family as
a valued heirloom. This enduring tradition of craftsmanship
assures you've made the right choice, sets you apart from
the ordinary and shows you know your way around the world
of fine craftsmanship.
All our crystal comes directly from workshops
in the Czech Republic. Shipped to you by air from Prague,
allowing us to sell premium quality crystal at surprisingly
affordable prices.
Perhaps, no other country in the world can
point to as long a tradition of glassmaking as the modern
day Czech Republic. Extensive regions within Bohemia and
Moravia continue to remain centers of Czech glassmaking and
manufacture. From the earliest days, Czech glass set the
tone in European, and world glassmaking.
The oldest discovery of glass beads within the Czech Republic
dates from the early bronze age, when this territory was
populated by Celts who knew the technology of glassmaking
and enamel. Archeological testimony confirms that glass beads
were very popular in those times and apparently, Benedictine
monasteries were engaged in the manufacture of glass as well.
The range of medieval glass was surprisingly rich and includes
graceful transparent glasses decorated with beads. The spectacular
glass mosaic "Day of Judgment," which adorns the
golden gate of St.Vitus’s Cathedral in Prague, confirms
the extreme delicacy and craftsmanship of medieval Czech
glassmaking.
